Employers have a duty to protect the safety of Fork Lift Truck Drivers, and those working near them.  Safe systems of work, vehicle maintenance, and driver training are essential, but also there is a duty to ensure that drivers are medically fit to operate these vehicles.

 

We can provide medical assessments of fitness to drive FLT’s at pre-employment and and periodically to ensure continuing fitness. Our questionnaire and examination will ensure that drivers have sufficient vision, hearing, strength and co-ordination to control the vehicle safely, as well as screening for hidden conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes that may affect driving.

 

FLT Medicals can be provided on-site, we only need use of a room in the workplace.  The results and any health advice will be given to the employee during the medical and statement regarding fitness to drive FLT’s will be provided to management.

 

FLT medicals should be repeated at regular intervals, depending on factors such as age and medical conditions of the driver, typically every five years.  However, questionnaire surveillance should be performed more often if there is a change of circumstances.
